GPS - Global Positioning System

is a U.S. space-based global navigation satellite system. It provides reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services to worldwide users on a continuous basis in all weather, day and night, anywhere on or near the Earth.

The figur shows a GPS segment with 24 GPS satellites (for satellites in each of 6 orbits). The number of visible satellites at a fixed point on earth (45 °N) is displayed.
